Coronado Springs is officially my least favorite Disney World resort. Are you thinking about staying there? Please read! We checked in two nights ago. We were just looking to add a night to our stay because the plane came in so late. If we hadn’t added a night, we would have only had two days at the parks, and missed most of a day at the Treehouses. Our plane landed at about 10pm so we got to Coronado just before midnight.
Hate to be negative, but
I do try to be very positive, look on the bright side and all that. I think your life is better and more enjoyable when you do. And y’all know I love Disney, so I give them the benefit of the doubt whenever possible. Yet I have to call it like I see it. I want you to have the best time possible and won’t steer you wrong in an effort to be positive. This was bad. I highly recommend that you choose a different resort if at all possible. Do not stay at Coronado Springs. Here’s why.
The room was on the first floor, but it had the feeling of being in a basement somewhere. It was damp feeling and cold. It had a musty smell. The thermostat was broken and wouldn’t adjust so we were stuck. I would have called if we’d been staying there for very long, but I knew we were just there for a night so I left it alone.
The bathroom was very tiny and plain and reminded me of a Best Western. Actually, I stayed in at a Best Western a few months ago and the bathroom was way bigger than the Coronado Springs bathroom. The water got hot so that was nice. But the door barely cleared the toilet. Very uncomfortable.
The decor was nice. The bed was pretty comfortable. It was quiet.
Coronado Springs is very large and spread out. We were lucky that we only needed to go to the room once and then check out so bell services gave us a ride both ways. Otherwise it would have been about a ten minute walk. My mom walked it once and that’s how long it took her. The buildings are very pretty and so is the lake. It was cold and a little rainy and it was still pretty. So I bet it’s dazzling in the summer with the sunshine and blue sky as a backdrop.
The lobby and general areas were also very nice and comfortable. My kids loved the fountain and the high ceilings. The decor isn’t really my style, but that’s just personal preference.
Coronado Springs is a business hotel. They host conferences. They specialize in corporate travel. Most of the guests seemed to be working. They had name tags and dressed in business casual. I’m still a little scarred from my 11 years in corporate America so I was not happy about this. They just took me to an unhappy time in my life. Maybe this wouldn’t matter to you at all, but I was transported to times when I too wore a name tag and dressed in business casual. It’s just not what I want to see on my vacation.
We only ate in the food court once, but Mom ate there twice. In my opinion, you need to eat in a place for a few nights to really get a feel for they’re offerings. It just takes that long to try the different items and see what you’re getting sick of, and what you want to eat all the time. So I’m not much help from that aspect of it, but I can tell you about what we did eat.
Mom had the chicken for lunch when she arrived and she raved about it. She actually text me (she NEVER texts) to tell me how good it was. And she had one piece left over that I ate when I arrived around midnight and it was pretty good, even cold. The cornbread had peppers in it and was tasty. I also got a salad from the little snack bar that was open that late, and it was good too.
For lunch the next day, we ordered another salad and the nachos and a flatbread pizza for the kids. We had a brownie and a Valentine’s Day cookie for dessert.
The nachos were AMAZING! So good! Plenty of toppings. And easily the highlight of the Coronado Springs experience was the nacho lady wrote Cyrus in sour cream on the top. I can’t believe how much fun that was. The kids loved it. We put a hurting on those nachos…and actually some are sounding really good right now!
The Chef’s Salad was good too, although it could have used more toppings. The flatbread pizza was just like all the other flatbread pizzas at Disney (although Coronado had more topping options than most places.) Overall, the food was a good point.
We only waited for one bus and it came fairly quickly. We were going to Magic Kingdom and we only waited about ten-fifteen minutes. Two Epcot, two Animal Kingdom and 1 internal (Disney Springs) bus came around while we waited. There are internal buses to jump on to ride up to the lobby if you were so inclined. I like to walk so I probably would have just walked it verses waiting for the internal bus.
Magical Express dropped us off first which was a big plus because we were tired. We were on ME with the folks heading to All Stars. I remember picking people up from Coronado on the way from All Stars to MCO last year so I bet we’re the last on before heading back to MCO. That’s a definite positive! Sometimes ME takes so long that it can be rushed to get to your gate, so it’s a real plus to be the last on!
All in all, the busses were good for us.
I am very interested to hear what Seth thinks about the resort because I had such strong opinions. I’m going to help him blog about it soon so stay tuned!
All the Resorts!
I have made it my goal to stay at all the Disney resorts. I’m going to add this info at the bottom of all my resort reviews because I think it would help me if I was reading a review. I’d have a clearer picture of that person’s experience so I could decide whether to trust them on each issue. I’ll include the number of days too, because I don’t feel like I get a great picture of the resort in just 1 or two nights and I’d want you to know that.
So here’s where I’ve stayed so far:
All the values: All Star Music (5 days), All Star Movies (4 days), All Star Sports (twice for 5 days each), Art of Animation (5 day), Pop Century (5 days)
Many of the Deluxes: Polynesian (twice for 5 days and 4 days), Grand Floridian (1 day), Beach Club (5 days), Wilderness Lodge (8 days), Old Key West (5 days), Saratoga Springs (4 days). Still need to stay at Animal Kingdom Lodge (in September), Boardwalk (two weeks from now!), Yacht Club (not sure when yet) and Contemporary (saving this for last for a celebration, unless I get a really good deal!)
