Introducing: A Disney Dining Expert: Beth
Hi! I’m Beth Burleson and I’m essentially the resident foodie. My husband and I took our first trip to Walt Disney World in December 2015. As I planned the trip, I researched every single restaurant on property. I was determined to use our free dining credits to the fullest: getting the best “bang for our buck” AND trying as much Disney Dining as possible. So, in that many-months-long journey to uncover The Best Disney Food, I accumulated an extravagant wish list. We did not even scratch the surface during that 5-day trip. 3 visits later, LJ and I have decided we’re taking a very special trip. The Foodie Trip. AKA #bestfriendsEATDISNEY
Let the Disney Dining Extravaganza Begin!
We’re doing a split stay this trip because we wanted to stay at Bay Lake Tower, but we aren’t made of money. During our first reservation, we’ll do the Deluxe dining plan so that we’ll have ample credits for eating at all those 2-credits restaurants. Second, we’ll do the Quick Service dining plan. First stop on the #bestfriendsEATDISNEY train is a special one. It’s something both LJ and I have had on our bucket list for a while… Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show! I’m feeling especially excited as I just watched Moana. I’m about that island vibe right now.
Full Day #1
On our first full day, we will eat lunch at Restaurant Marrakesh in Morocco. On our last trip (and first trip together), I introduced LJ to a few restaurants that she didn’t even know existed. Most important of these was Tangerine Cafe, the Quick Service Cafe in Morocco. It blew her mind. Changed her life. She drank the Tangerine Kool-Aid, so to speak. So naturally, the next step is to try the Moroccan Table Service! We have high hopes for this stop and hope it proves to be even more delicious as Tangerine Cafe.
Then, that night for dinner is the one… the only… Le Cellier. I have extremely high hopes for this stop. From day one of catching the Disney Bug, I have heard only good things about Le Cellier. It’s the steak restaurant in Canada. I tried the Le Cellier steak that was presented at the Epcot Food and Wine Festival in 2016 (and years prior), and was very pleased with it. We’ll be sure and do a very detailed review.
The next day is a very exciting day. We have Annual Passholder Exclusive tickets to get into Pandora in Animal Kingdom. I absolutely cannot wait. Before we go, we will eat lunch at Sanaa, a table service restaurant at Animal Kingdom Lodge that serves Indian and African cuisine. My India-loving heart is BEYOND excited for this stop. Pardon me while I whip out my saari and the Bollywood playlist on my phone and have a full blown moment.
Then, that night is dinner at the restaurant that started my desire for this “foodie trip.” TIFFINS! It’s a gourmet restaurant on Discovery Island that serves cuisine from all over the world. On the tragical express at the end of my last trip, I saw the video of Joe Rohde talking about how he curated the art for Tiffins and how the Imagineers planned and carefully crafted Tiffins, and I was sold. Just listen to the way Disney describes it on the website: “Lavish artwork—including photograph collages, paintings and sculptures inspired by actual notes and field sketches of the Imagineers who created Disney’s Animal Kingdom park.” UH YEP. I’ll have that. Thanks.
Last Day of Deluxe
We’re starting out our last day on the Deluxe Disney Dining Plan with a Minnie’s Beach Bash Breakfast at Cape May. Every good trip needs a character breakfast, and we’ve never done this one. Can’t wait!
Then, for dinner that night, we are traipsing over to Yacht Club for the dinner-only restaurant, the Yachtsman. The menu looks actually DIVINE, and I am very excited to try it. I may bring a dress for this restaurant, it seems V fancy.
For the second half of the trip, we’ll be dining at our favorite Quick Service restaurants. These include Columbia Harbour House (MK,) Tangerine Cafe (EP,) Backlot Express (HS,) and Flame Tree Barbecue (AK.)
We’ll be posting live from the trip. AND I will write up a full review of every stop with photos once we return!
A note from LJ: We have a few dining credits left over and we’re letting you decide where to spend them! Is there anywhere else you’d like to see us dine and review? We’re going to be taking a poll in our Facebook Group. Search #BestFriendsEatDisney
Also, we’re using a lot of tricks to be able to afford Bay Lake Tower and Deluxe Dining. We weren’t born with silver spoons in our mouths! If you want to hear more about how we’re making this happen, everything is going to be in my eBook. It’s called: Disney World Within Reach, Meeting the Mouse Without Breaking the Bank. It’s coming out in May, but you can download a free chapter now!
